So, I have not been inspired recently of what to post. So I will recap my time with my parents.
My parents came!! It was a great week and a very full week! If you ask them about it, they will probably tell you that I walked their feet off. We started in Prague, where they landed, on Saturday the 5th. After some time spent in the train station, we boarded a train for Ostrava. They came to church with me on Sunday and I gave them a brief tour of my city. It was great to have them here where I live. Now when I talk about certain places they can have a real picture in their head.
Monday morning, bright and early, well not so bright, but REALLY early, we got on a train for Salzburg, via Prague. We spent the day on the train talking, watching some Sound of Music and laughing. Most of which was at my dad's expense. He had some allergy problems and had started taking Zyrtec. His eyes just would not stay open.
We arrived at Salzburg and after sitting all day, I was up and ready to get going. We walked into old town Salzburg, which is VERY cute and historic. We had dinner, but made it an early night because we needed to be up for....
THE SOUND OF MUSIC TOUR!!! This was by far my favorite thing I have done since coming to Europe. Really! The funny thing is, no one here even knows what the Sound of Music is. So when I tell them the reason we went to Salzburg, they just look at me like....OK.....
We spent the morning/early afternoon riding around Salzburg in a 10 passenger van seeing all the sights of the Sound of Music and of course SINGING! I'm pretty sure I was the only person who sang the whole time though....
That evening we went back around to the sights that we wanted to see up close but didn't get to from the tour. And walked some more. We finished the night by watching all of the Sound of Music in our hotel room, and avoiding the Fat Tuesday mayhem. Though Mardi Gras in Salzburg could have been fun........nah...... :)
On Wednesday we got on another train and headed back to Prague. We arrived in the late afternoon and checked in then headed out for dinner. Mom and Dad got a true experience of European wait service. They are called waiters here for a reason. Don't expect them to be at your table every five minutes. There was one waiter for the whole restaurant.
The next day we took one last train a little outside of prague to see Karlstejn (Carl-shtain) castle. It was built by non other than King Charles IV. It is beautiful and a pretty good hike up the hill to it. After hiking up there, on the way down we decided a meal was in order. We had a typical Czech meal. Well, Mom and I did. Soup, Potatoes, Chicken, and Dessert. It was good.
We got back in to Prague and still had things to see there. We rested for a little bit, then went to Petrin hill for a nice view, Malastranska for some Starbucks, walked across Charles Bridge at sunset, (must say it is better in the summer when the sun sets behind the castle) and finally Old Town Square, had some Bohemia Bagel, and called it a night.
The next morning we went to see Prague castle. We took the tram up the hill walked around and came down using the old castle steps. Mom wanted to see Wallenstein, but unfortunately like most things in winter in Europe, it was closed until April. So next time they come, we will be there! Totally!
After seeing the castle we decided to spend the rest of the afternoon getting some souvenirs. So we did some shopping. I took them to my favorite places to get stuff for other people. We had dinner at an Italian place on Vaclav Namesti and then decided to see Charles Bridge one last time. We went back to the hotel, bundled up, and made our way to the bridge. It was beautiful to see at night, and I got some great shots on my camera of course.
Then came time for them to head back home. They didn't need to leave until 1. So We spent the morning playing cards in the hotel. Some great quality time before they left. We went to the train station, because I needed to catch a train back to Ostrava, where I had friends waiting, who came in from Budapest. They took the bus to the airport and I got on a train for Ostrava.
It was so wonderful having them here, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I got back to Ostrava and one of my really good friends, Annie, was here. She is also a Texan, and even though she is a fan of TU, we still get along and it was great to have her here as well. Now things have settled down and I am back into life here. It seems like the weeks are FLYING by and soon I will be on a plane myself for Texas. But there is so much to do until then. Thanks for reading all this recap. Love you guys!
