After a LONG day of travel (26 hours in all) we have made it to our new home in Ostrava, CZ.
We left for LAX at 10:30 (Pacific time) with out a clue as to what the next 24 hours would hold. All thirteen of us got to the airport (with all our luggage ;) ) and proceeded to check in. We found out that none of us were allowed to check more than one bag at a time. So...we then had to go through the procedure of paying for each of those extra bags we brought with us. The organization paid for those extra bags and because my guitar was only 12 pounds I was not charged the $200 fee for a third bag.
An hour and a half later we all have our boarding passes and head for the gate. Everyone boarded and found their seats (all over the plane) with out a hitch. Due to customs issues with one of the customers on board we left the gate about 30 minutes late. It's alright, we'll make up for it in the air!
I had a great conversation with the man sitting next to me, just back from visiting his son at none other than Texas A&M! He was on his way to Dubai. The woman on the other side of me only spoke German, and I only knew like three words in German.... (Veggie Tales anyone?) So, we communicated through facial expressions and hand gestures. :)
Landed in Frankfurt at 10:45 am (Central Europe Time). Our flight to Prague was going to start boarding at 11:30. We waited patiently through passport control. (Smile at the nice guy who decides if I get in or not) We waited patiently through another round of security....(Smile at the nice person holding the wand praying they don't pull you over) Then we SPRINTED to our gate another terminal over, to board the plane at 11:50. No room in the over heads for the bags (an 18 member orchestra had boarded before us...) so, sweaty and exhausted we sat in our seats to head for Prague.
All worries of the hick ups in our plans melted away when I saw the Vltava and St. Vitus. I am home...from that point on I was just excited to be here! Carting 20 pieces of luggage through the Prague public transportation system, no problem! I am in the Czech Republic. I am back to a place that is so dear to my heart! I have made it!
Four hours on a train and a car ride and I am now home. I have so many more stories to share, including my first experience with a European hand held shower, the train ride through GORGEOUS Czech country, and a flight attendant who told me I carry too much stuff. :) But for now, I am going to explore. The stories will come. I'm making a journal...
Love you all! Thanks for your prayers and support! Pictures of the flat coming soon. :)
