Closet of Prayer

Matthew 6:6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Prayer is intimate. I am reading through Red Moon Rising right now. I've picked it up and put it down several times since my friend loaned it to me to read. It is a book about a 24-7 prayer movement that is taking over the world. It all started in a prayer room a church established in 1999 in England.

The church felt a strong call from God for prayer. They were starting the new church and wanted to bathe all of their ideas and plans in prayer before moving forward with anything.

A phrase I came across today is that prayer is crawling up into the lap of the Father. We as Christians pray. Even non-Christians pray! The difference is God has called us to intimacy in our prayers. Jesus tells us, in Matthew, to close the door when we pray. He is calling us to intimacy.

What is your life like 'behind closed doors?' I've always been told that intimate things are done in private. I am not saying that praying in public can't be intimate, but what are your closet times like? Do you shut the door and strip everything away and become transparent with the Lord? The one who knows you inside out anyway.

Do I? What a challenge to allow God into the most private areas of who you are! Close the door. Shut out everything else. Lock it if you must (literally!) Become intimate with the Lord your God who loves you!

There you will find what Prayer really is!
