You probably might have been an ESI teacher if...

YOU RECOGNIZED THAT TITLE SENTENCE AS PRESENT PERFECT TENSE WITH A CONDITIONAL.

I have never learned more about my native language than I have in these 7 months of teaching it. Did you know that we have 12 tenses...not 3 like we learned in school. The English language is known for its ability to tell you EXACTLY when an event happened.

So quiz time!! Which tense would you use...

If you wanted to talk about something that happened in the past before another event in the past?

If you wanted to talk about something that will happen in the future after a determined period of time?

If you wanted to talk about something you did in the past while something else was happening?

If you wanted to talk about something that is a habitual practice now that you do?

I am sure all my ESI friends and TEFL teachers can answer those questions with perfect skill. You find yourself analyzing every sentence that you say to determine the structure and tense used.

Whatever happened to Past, Present and Future? CRAZY LANGUAGE!!
